Examples of grants

William Gunn’s Charity is happy to receive applications from members of the Religious Society of Friends who are within Britain Yearly Meeting.

William Gunn died in 1828, leaving money in his will to set up a fund to ‘pay relief to needy Quakers’.  Trustees are not allowed to promise to repeat applications; each application had to be treated as a fresh application.

Current trustees continue this work.  They hold a small fund and aim to respond quickly to applications.

Examples of grants

Grants awarded over the years have been varied and some examples are shown here:

  • Friends who need to move house to meet their needs from age or disability and need items such as furniture or carpets.
  • Friends who are struggling to pay household bills or need to replace essential items such as fridge or cooker.
  • Friends who need to give support to family members who may be in hospital at a distance and so need travel expenses.
  • Friends who need a break from caring or for activities or short breaks for their children who may have special needs.

This is not an exhaustive list.  Do contact us if you think you might be eligible.
